Dear Mr. Banes,

What motivates kids today? We all know in the past years it was the videos on TV, actresses, singers and celebrities. The superficial and get rich quick schemes gave them thrill and inspiration but what about a feel of stability? In 2011 teens and pre teens are not the same. They have been through tragedies and have experienced devastation and heartbreak. They are using more personal and intrinsic motivation to jump start their careers and life goals. They are realizing there is more satisfaction and meaning to their lives when they reach and strive for their goals for a personal, special, and more in depth causes. The money and celerity “Bling – Bling” just isn’t enough today.  They are definitely making a statement.

I would like this to be on the front page of the community section. The picture would have four teens holding something that represents their motivation in their hand. If not, I would like just one teen standing with a faded shot of their “Sample of motivation” in the background, whether it be a picture, a piece of jewelry, or any type of memorabilia they have.

This story is not just any random idea but really hit home for me. As a preteen I lost my father so I made the decision that from now on everything I did was dedicated and inspired by my father and family. I can completely relate to the topic, so I could add personal reference to my story of tragedy in my adolescences. I also have the permission to interview the specialist of youth development at the Vallejo, Ca Omega’s Boys and Girl’s Club Essex Cook. I am allowed to interview the preteens and teens in attendance of the program with the permission of their parents or guardians.  This will most certainly be an inspiring and interesting topic. I look forward to hearing from you.

Thank you,
